Introduce yourself in a few lines.
I am an insurance professional driven by a deep passion for insurance, risk management, and business development. My professional journey in the insurance sector began as an agent in 2015 with Cuzo Rwanda Limited, which later evolved into Cuzo Insurance Brokers, subsequently joining the OLEA Group, where it stands today as OLEA Rwanda.
Over the years, I have gained diverse experience in both the insurance and banking industries, culminating in my most recent role as Head of Bancassurance at I&M Bank Rwanda PLC. However, my true devotion lies in the realm of insurance, and this is where I thrive.
Beyond my professional pursuits, I am an ardent cyclist and swimmer, and I have an insatiable passion for reading, especially books about entrepreneurship and business. The latest one I delved into was "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries. The Lean Startup » d’Eric Ries.
How did you join OLEA ?
My association with OLEA began with the acquisition of Cuzo Insurance Brokers. This strategic move immediately caught my attention, as it signified an opportunity to be part of a Pan-African organization that shared my fervent dedication to growth.
When the position of Technical Manager became available due to a departure, I seized the opportunity to not only expand my knowledge but also contribute to the burgeoning Rwandan insurance sector while working with the dynamic team at OLEA. Recently, in June 2023, I have taken on the role of Chief Operating Officer for OLEA Rwanda.
Can you tell us about a work situation where your personal values played a key role in making a decision or solving a problem?
In my experience handling insurance schemes, particularly in the context of medical insurance, my personal values have played a pivotal role. I deeply empathize with our clients, which informs my approach to decision-making.
In addition, listening to clients with humility enables me to understand their needs and difficulties in order to solve problems and respond to their concerns.
For example, a client faced a serious medical issue, and though their company's policy afforded them partial coverage, I empathized with their financial burden. I advocated for an exception, securing full coverage for the procedure. This decision demonstrated the significance of understanding clients' unique circumstances, reinforcing trust, and aligning with my core values of empathy and fairness.
What's the most rewarding aspect of your job, on both a professional and personal level?
I am fervently passionate about the burgeoning Rwandan insurance industry, which is expanding at a remarkable pace. Being part of this growth and evolution is incredibly rewarding. This passion drives me to maintain a high level of diligence in my work, as I recognize that our actions today set precedents for future developments within the industry.
In addition, my work offers a continuous learning experience. The collaborative environment within the OLEA Group allows me to glean knowledge from colleagues with extensive industry experience. The company's ambitious outlook aligns with my own, motivating me to push my limits daily and derive immense satisfaction from the journey.
